Child Care Licensing Specialist

Do you celebrate the diversity that comes from working with a wide range of cultures and beliefs to the betterment of Utah children? The Child Care Licensing Specialist will provide training and technical assistance to child care providers to ensure the compliance with Child Care Licensing rules. Additionally, the opportunity to conduct inspections and investigate complaints about providers will foster a sense of team work with the State and Child Care Providers. Using a gained knowledge of applicable rules and Utah statute, the Child Care Licensing Specialist will determine if citations or sanctions should be issued by following established protocols and work towards creating opportunities for improvement with providers. This position requires communication and time management skills to efficiently process an assigned caseload. You will further foster working relationships by coordinating with partner agencies to provide documentation and speaking at informal discussions or hearings concerning decisions made by the program. If offered this position, your continued employment will be contingent on passing a background check.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES

  • Providing information to providers seeking assistance.
  • Suggesting alternatives or solutions.
  • Writing simple, accurate, and grammatically correct statements of findings.
  • Providing consultation and/or expert advice or testimony.

  • Preference may be given to those applicants with a Bachelor's Degree or higher in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, and/or Child Psychology.
  • Experience providing child care in a licensed child care facility.
  • Preference may be given to applicants able to communicate in Spanish.

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the data entry part of the work when in the office; however, there will be walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. while conducting onsite inspections.

  • In state, out of state, overnight and weekend travel is required.  
  • Salary ranges specified reflect a minimum starting and top of range dollar amount. Actual rate per hour will be determined by evaluation of qualifications and skills of the individual and the availability of monies through budget and grants or by following DHRM rule.
